But I don't think any such player exists.
All I've ever been given by a Friend or Guildie is: 1) A Max Composite Bow when I first started so I'd have a max weapon (it was req10 white with no mods) 2) 5k from another friend which I paid back the next week 3) 1 stack of Parchment for armor.

And beleive me I've handed back 10 fold that amount since.

And I only have 1 character I really use for PvE - Former Ruling. I have a monk also but she probably has less than 20k invested in her, and the money from her farming has been used 99% just to buy skills and such for characters. I also have a necro and a warrior and a Rit, but each have the minimum of stuff that they bought with money earned on that character themselves and have brought almost no profit to my account as a whole.

------------

Anyways,

My Ranger runs chests alot is the only reason I have anything. If I didn't, I'd say I'd have ~100k usually in my bank, which is FAR MORE than you'll ever need for basic proposes as long as you have a continuous flow of money (Not farming, just selling all your drops, etc). Anything over that is just excess I use for the finer things in GW like Gold Weapons and 15ks armors and all the not-needed things.

The biggest mistake (and it happens in real life too) - if you earn your money too fast you tend to spend it too fast. Its the reason Big Lottery winners more often than not end up filing for Bankruptcy some time after they won, and its the reason Joe Nobody that got a few good drops like req9 elemental swords is wearing FoW armor but now can't even afford to buy skills for his newest character.

For me . my first GW chaptor is Factions.Manage to get my Necro a set of 15K armor. Then off playing a few charactor with minimum spending. Then finish Phropercie. When I am done with both so I am doing chest runs.I think I start to blews my stash after that. And I never do a solo green farming at all

Now in Nightfall playing monk .I think I got all the items worth around 200-300 K already. If i manage to sell them all.

50k aint much tho

theres no way you can spend 0$
unless you plan to use UNID weapons and pre-searing armor the entire game

dont forget you have to buy salvage kits and id's

I have 8 PvE characters. I stay broke, lol. However, FoW is good to me and I usually get 2-4 shards everytime I go and I always am in a full group, so that's not solo drops.

in GW, you shouldnt have to exert much effort to get what you need to function. money, for the most part, serves to aquire what you want, seldomly will there be a case of an individual being forced to farm for numerous hours in order to get the equipment they need for their characters. usually, this is in the case of people who have multiple characters, and slack off a tad after their first one (almost all of us do it).
but, every single time i have ever played the game through from begining to end, without skipping vast parts in the interrim, i have been able to equip my characters adequetly without touching the funds in my storage, materials, runes, or items.
more or less, i only do this once the character is complete, and im sick of using collectors items.
i should mention, that despite my economic status, out of my 17 lvl20 characters, only 5 have any armor set above 1.5k. because, anything above that is not needed (i will only get 15k or FoW if i particularly like the look, for the most part, i do not).

Just play the game and watch the gold come rolling in. +100k before even reaching the desert in prophesies, and that's with a big-ish splurge on buying a minipet at LA. No farming, no lucky drops, no power trading... Just simply playing the game, picking up and merching all drops no matter how small, it all adds up.

I guess it's more about spending than earning. Apart from that little charr, there's just nothing I've wanted enough to spend money on it in the game. Until they brought out that new nightfall 10k armour - My monk so needs socks! Thick wooly socks, just say no to cold feet.

100k is all you need imo - per char btw

100k can get you all the armor you need a decent weapon max dmg and a skin you like a good offhand and every skill in the game

Well, I farmed my butt off to make money... and a few good drops+mini bone dragon helped too

But for my Paragon, I haven't farmed a bit... and right now he has max armor, full Radiant insignias, a -5(20%), +30hp shield, a +5, zealous, +20hp spear, and a nice gold color on his armor at the moment... So, it is possible to go through this game not farming a cent, but you won't be able to get 15k or FoW armor any time soon.

Pretty much what has been said - it depends.

If you just want a character with plain max armor (that is, base cost armor - some of which I much prefer over the expensive skins), full set of runes, full set of insignias (if playing Nightfall), and decent max weapons you would probably need somewhere around 25k or so. That is assuming you like the base cost armor with the more expensive crafting materials, one of your runes is one of the expensive ones, and you need a wand/offhand. Pretty easy to get in the game, just play through the story line and not spend gold on anything other than what you need and by the time you get to where you can purchase the stuff you will have enough.

As for what constitutes a decent amount of money just to have? Well that depends on what you want. I would say a decent amount means you can afford pretty much anything you want. If you want 10 sets of FoW armor then a "decent" amount is 1000k plus an inventory full of stacks of 255 ecto.

I have spent well over 500k, I would guess I'm probably pushing the 1000k mark - I currently have around 8k in storage. But I spend it as soon as I get it and with 10 sets of heroes to outfit, well, I've got a MAJOR gold sink I've got half a vabbian outfit I just purchased a piece at a time and I can assure you it's gone over 100k on just it (and one set of nightfall 10k armor for another character during the same time). I don't think I ever had over 12k in my storage during the entire process.

So, I would also say it is more important to have some way of making gold than just having it. Especially if you really like to spend it. I've never had over 60k in storage at a time and the only reason I had that was to purchase a green right after they were first introduced to the game.

Well, I guess it all rather depends on who you are and how you play. I have 500k in storage, 3 sets of 15k, maybe another 100k in weapons and such. I've spent hundreds of thousands, and it never surprises me to watch 100k+ numbers going back and forth between me and others.

And I still think that's nothing.

On the other hand, yes, you can probably get along just fine and never have more than 50-100k in storage. If you don't want a req 8 15^50 Crystalline and other similar what-have-you's.

20k is about right to get everything required to have what you need, more for getting all skills with gold - of course.

5k feels expendable to me, 10k is alot to me to blow off.

i pick up everything, have alot of full stacks of materials stored +more on some
and i got over 425k pure gold, atm... i got alot of stuff i could sell off and liquidate into gold

I would consider myself most definitely regular and I've never had 500k. At once, anyway.

It all depends on how you want to play your game. I play with just a few weapons bought from other players and only what I need. And occassionally buying a new set of armor for fun.

I have about 60k right now and consider myself 'richer then the pharoah tutt.'

But, a lot of econimcal crazy peoples play the game to get ecto and 900k+. In fact one of my friend has 4120k and calls himself poor. I call him crazy. He is a noob when it comes to fighting, so I guess its just how you want to play the game.

I play broke and skilled.

Actually.. looking at BooYA's post above mine I realised that I'm really broke. I'm more then a regular player. I play at LEAST 5 hours on a good day. Some days I'm not at home, but most of the time when I am I'm playing seeing as I don't have a tv.

I might just be broke

I did just that a few months ago with my mesmer for the sake of satisfying my curiosity. I played through Prophecies, only spending cash on two sets of armor (30 AL in Ascalon City and again at Droknar's Forge) and every last mesmer skill in the campaign. I kept her assets completely isolated from my storage vault, and you know what? I finished Hell's Precipice with 33k on hand.

I never had any extraordinary, 100k+ecto kind of drops. I got one black dye that went to the trader, and I sold the -50hp offhand for 5k. That's it.

Totally possible to spend nothing.

If you play chapter 1 you should have earned enough cash by the time you reach droks to pay for the max 1.5k armor without having to farm. Materials can be gained by salvaging everything that drops.

Don't want to be a tightfist? 15-20k is enough.
I had enough money before I had even got to Beacon's Perch. I'm not sure how, but I had that much by just playing (probably because I got and sold 2 black dyes when they were worth 10k, if I remember correctly).
